From Willem van Nassau's breeder:  Arnold Wemmenhove, Netherlands:

In our family we have always bred KWPN horses, breeding for dressage, and also breeding for jumping.  In our latter years, we have been a breeding farm for Friesian horses and not been so engaged in breeding Dutch Warmbloods.   During the riding of our Friesian stallion,  I saw more and more that I wanted to represent not just the pleasure horse, but the dressage horse, the Friesian especially suitable with their willing personalities.  I have researched over and over bloodlines of successful production. Thus I found  within very many Northern KWPN mare lines  between 1880 -1925, some Friesian Stallions used them. It was the basis to lay ground work with the present KWPN breeding farms and whose bloodlines have  major success. Thus I concluded to go back and and interbreed.

Whenever you crossbreed,  you can lose the pretty black color, charisma,  hair and feathering  of the Friesian horse. Thus I concluded  the final product was UNIQUE-- black or Black & white-Pinto.  I wanted to work with pinto with sport genes, line 007. This was the motherline  with the unique approved Black & White  KWPN stallion Samber , sire with great approved stallions worldwide. I then spoke with the  breeder of SAMBER (the Family Smilda)  and who had on their farm, a black and white pinto mare, straight out of the line with TINA D,  the mother of SAMBER.  I bought this Pinto mare PEPPER.  Willem is 50% Friesian and he has also 22% English thoroughbred within his blood. This hot blood is directly desired for achievement and sternness. The Arab Friesian contains Arabian blood only,  I have been  convinced to remain with the English thoroughbred for the future, since  Olympic horses have not shown much success with Arabian blood horses.  The thoroughbred winning achievements is being sought after.  The present day KWPN sport horse breeding farms is being crossed  with many thoroughbreds.

The motherline heavily predicated.  Clavecimbel -one stallion whose had various international dressage horses  and achieved very high scores within the dressage index. of the KWPN. The grandmother of Willem is a full sister to the international dressage horse, 'IWAN ";  who later on within America,  selected for the Olympic dressage team. Great-grandmother " Wanda " who herself was Keur Preferent and Prestatiemare, who is the mother of national and international sport horses.  Further in the pedigree of Willem,  straight back to Tina D who is the mother is with the unique approved Black and white stallion SAMBER.

Willem sire is the Friesian stallion ADEL 357, Grand Prix and ridden by Peter Spahn, International trainer and his rider.   Adel is approved in many various studbook with his sport record. Willem is the prime approved son of Adel 357.
